MinkiNTN Secret Santa Disc [for ???]

…or random songs randomly picked from my playlist.

As the title stated, this is just me, sitting in front of my computer, and clicking next on my grand playlist of songs that I like, noting down songs that I like just a bit more than others.

There is not really a theme, but my rationale behind the selection and track-listing is: Imagine you are walking down the street in a new place, with music from all different cultures blaring down the streets, that is what I'm trying to achieve. It starts out fun and upbeat, and gradually winds down, and give you some time to reminisce with the last few tracks. Hopefully after listening, you would've been taken along the ride on a journey around the world~.

How it's made

Recording the disc

The songs were sourced from the most authentic source that I can find, in most cases it's purchased digitally on iTunes (or mora.jp for harder to find/region locked songs), or ripped from CDs. The files were then imported into a playlist in foobar2000, normalised with ReplayGain, and then recorded in real time through Optical using a Sony MZ-R50.

The track title is also send in real time with the help of a gmdrec.

The disc were then given a final listen on a Sansui M11, with me watching the display like a hawk in the process.

The jewel case

I know that I want to do something more than just a simple label pasted on a slip case. I played around with the idea of 3D printed cases, and insert a while back, and really like this CD jewel case insert on Thingiverse, so I used it for the case of the disc. I printed it on my printer using transparent PLA, with a hexagon infill pattern to make it looks less boring.

The front cover & Tray card

The front cover is printed on overhead projector transparencies. I don't think I'm good at designing anything, so it's best to just let the actual MiniDisc show itself through the cover. The traycard on the back is just a simple tracklist.
